Don Imus. Who?

Don Imus was a radio show host who was on in a limited number of markets across the United States. He had very low ratings. His program was also simulcast on MSNBC where he managed to pull in around 300,000 viewers. The #1 DJ in your city probably has a larger audience than Imus did all across the country. So if you'd never heard of the guy, no one can blame you.Imus is ancient. He's been on the radio forever, and between his advanced age and all the drugs and alcohol he did in the past, he looks like a crypt keeper version of a cowboy. Imus loves to dress up like a cowboy. I guess that's part of his "charm"?Imus was fired because he made a sexist crack about the femininity of a group of black female basketball players. Notice I said it was a sexist remark. He said something about the girls being tough, having tattoos, and then called them "nappy-headed hos". He was trying to be funny and use some street lingo. Unfortunately he didn't realize the consequences of an old white man in a cowboy hat refering to black girls as "nappy-headed hos", regardless of context. Both Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson went after Imus, along with every other so-called black leader desperate for media attention at the expense of an old man's career. Of course what's funny is that both Sharpton and Jackson are known for making anti-semetic remarks. It's sort of hypocritical for men who have themselves made racist remarks to chastise another man for his supposed racism. And now, a few excellent words from columnist Jason Whitlock.
